Music is a universal language and has been a great diversion during these past few weeks. With the cancellation of live performances, the lack of sporting events and new stay-at-home orders throughout the world, a welcome distraction is much needed. For those working at home away from colleagues, friends and family, here is a happy-but-not-sappy song playlist to get you through the week.

In times like these, it’s impossible to deny the appeal of “Work from Home” by Fifth Harmony, even if you’re not the biggest fan of the group. However, if you are in dire need of something new and fresh to get hip to, you may want to dance your way through some epic tunes or “Quarentunes,” a delightful term coined by actress Rita Wilson. As the coronavirus global pandemic has turned us all into hermit crabs, keeping ourselves entertained has become more historic than ever, so why not feel the rhythm of Sticky Finger’s track “Freddy Crabs.”

Although these are difficult times, I have taken this quarantine as an opportunity to curate some of the finest, vaguely disease-related tracks into one playlist.  Plenty of coronavirus-themed playlists have been created on Spotify, all having a roughly similar collection of songs. While other coronavirus playlists seem to exist more to have amusing lists of apropos song titles than a cohesive musical theme. New bangers amid the grim reality are likely to get you moving, and this playlist will get you on your feet.

No one could have guessed that this year would be so unbelievably strange - happy hour on Zoom with singer Qveen Herby’sSADE IN THE 90s” or Google Hangouts with dance music made up of the top 2019 hits like “SOBER” by daste. These songs are meant to make you smile, dance and bring positive energy to wherever you’re quarantined. Songs like “Maple Syrup Tears” by Huron John will have you getting up in the morning ready to start your day on a positive note. Others like “Music Sounds Better With You” by NEIL FRANCES will have you bumping in the bathroom while you start to wake up.

If you're getting too in your head — or feeling too in your apartment — let these spirited songs allow you to reinstate your zest for life and make you feel good. They'll get you out of bed, and make you tap your toes while you brush your teeth and wash your hands for two minutes. Most of all, the more-curated offerings in this collection of alleged bangers, such as “Sua Alma” by Skinshape and “Colibria” by Nicola Cruz will remind you that you are allowed to feel happy during this crazy time we live in.
