Just a few weeks ago, The Eagle reported on the first impact of the coronavirus at AU, bringing students abroad in China back home. Now, the entirety of AU’s study abroad program is effectively suspended, all classes have been moved online for the rest of the semester and students must move out of on-campus housing by March 23 or apply for emergency accommodations. In an organized and extensive attempt to contain the virus’s effects on the AU community, the University has displaced students and staff as a consequence.

As we launch our new website dedicated to coverage of the repercussions of COVID-19 for AU, our opinion section takes on a new goal. The Eagle is committed to documenting the effects of the University’s response on members of the AU community. This community is made up of a diverse group of students from different backgrounds, majors and club affiliations, and each of us will deal with new and unique challenges as a result of the University’s response. The attached Google Form, with the option of writing more detailed op-eds, is a way for students to communicate the ways in which this global pandemic has affected their lives.

We hope that publishing the experiences of students will not only create solidarity in a time of great uncertainty, but will also highlight the specific areas in which the University can better support its students. Please click this link to share your thoughts.
